Pass the Port

The perfect way to end a holiday meal is to pass the Port. By custom, Port is always passed in a clockwise direction. In The Wine Bible, Karen Mac Neil explains “Although the origins of the custom are obscure, research by the house of Sandeman suggests the practice might be based on the old Celtic superstition that all circular motions should be deiseal, that is, turning in a way such that a person moving in a circle would have his right hand toward the center.” When serving Port, any large wine glass that allows for swirling will do. Serving size should be about 3 ounces, or a little less than a regular wine serving. LW suggests these Ports:
Seppelt Trafford Tawney Port
Fonseca 10yr Port
