Dear wine lovers,
In our most recent "Wine of the Week" series we featured ten wines that were all new here in Arkansas, and they were all very well received. However, as summer heat has set in, we decided to bring back many of our long-time favorite wines at very special prices. While we have slipped one or two new wines in to this series, you certainly will notice many of our past oldies but goodies.

Toasted Head Chardonnay
California
Think back to 1973. The 60's are over, the war is over, everything American is good and right. This is the year Karl and John Giguiere went home to the Dunnigan Hills farm they grew up on. The charm of being shepherds quickly wore off, and they planted 10 acres of Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. The vineyard thrived and today R. H. Phillips has 1600 acres of grapes and produces over 400,000 cases of wine.

Toasted Head Cabernet Sauvignon
California
The art of blending became an important role in creating this Cabernet. Blending is a tool used to develop more complex finished wine. The weak points of one varietal can be counteracted by the strengths of another. Malbec adds a hint of anise and soft plum flavors, while the Petit Verdot adds structure. The brand, Toasted Head, was named for the age-old practice of toasting the barrelheads during the coopering process.

Rosemount Semillon/Chardonnay
Australia
Pioneered in Australia, Chardonnay Semillon is a combination of Australia's two most popular white varieties. The combination of both provides a synergy of palate flavors, giving richness and length to the finished wine. The wine finishes soft and dry with crisp acidity and pleasant, lingering fruit flavors and is ideally suited to chicken, vegetarian, and seafood.

Hogue Fruit Forward Chardonnay During the grape growing season, eastern Washington boasts warm summer days followed by cool nights, insuring that grapes ripen fully while retaining ample natural acidity. This Chardonnay shows that classic balance. Aromas are of pear, apple, cream, toast and butter toast, with a slight smoky note in the background. This would be a great accompaniment to chicken picatta or even grilled Gruyere cheese sandwiches. |

Hogue Fruit Forward Merlot
Washington State
Fruit. That is the emphasis on this red. In 1982 Mike & Gary Hogue set out to bottle the bright pure flavors of the grapes grown in the eastern Washington's Columbia & Yakima valleys. The climate a soils here allow the fruit to mature completely and develop, high natural acidity, an advantage many other top wine regions cannot claim.
